Film and TV for learning: call for entries

Entries are open for the Japan Prize, a prestigious international competition for educational media. Generous prizes of USD$8,000 and $USD3,000 will be awarded to the two best proposals for TV programmes about literacy and language that contribute to education in an entrant’s country or region. The prize is organised by NHK, Japan’s public service broadcaster.

The competition also gives awards for completed projects, in the following categories:

1. Pre-school
2. Primary
3. Youth
4. Continuing education
5. Welfare education
6. Innovative media

Five finalists for the TV proposal divison will invited to Tokyo for pitching in front of an international jury in October.

Last year the Japan Prize received 335 entries from 60 countries and regions. The organisers hope that more audiovisual content demonstrating educational creativity will be entered from around the world, and that the prize will serve as a place where people involved in education and media can learn together.

This year the competition will mark its 40th edition, and takes place in Tokyo from October 17 to 24, 2013.

Be quick, the deadline for entry is 30 June 2013. For more information and to enter, visit the dedicated competition website.
